Vital Spartanburg emerged from a coalition of community leaders, nonprofit executives, public officials, and private-sector partners passionate about addressing the mental health crisis in our area. Together they recognized this work needed a unified brand identity and a strategic web platform to help present a story that resonated with residents, employers, talent, and investors alike.
ALINE began where all meaningful brand work starts: by listening. From our initial discovery conversations, a clear brand thesis emerged. This initiative's mission was vital for our city. And its identity was not about any single entity or institution—it was about the connective energy between them, and the way people and organizations showed up for each other, invested in shared goals, and built something collectively that none could build alone. The name Vital Spartanburg was born, chosen to reflect both the energy of the community and the essential nature of the collective investment in its future.
With a strong and unique name in place and strategic alignment established, ALINE moved into brand architecture and creative development. Our team built a visual identity that emphasized energy and community through a simple, ownable brand system. We developed a comprehensive brand toolkit that included not just a complete visual identity, but also messaging frameworks, voice guidelines, and application standards. The toolkit was designed to be adopted across dozens of organizations, each with their own existing brands, without creating conflict or confusion. This required a flexible system that could live alongside institutional identities while still creating a unified thread. Color, typography, iconography, and language all worked together to make Vital Spartanburg's story immediately accessible and deeply recognizable.
